Hi, I’m Kara | This is A Designed Lifestyle

Hi, I’m Kara! I’m the owner and principal designer of Sleek to Chic Interiors – I’m a mom, interior designer, wife, healthy food critic, Christian, thrifter, and survivor. I’m an award-winning designer who is pretty well-known for becoming friends with her clients. I’ve transformed many spaces over the years, and I love my job. But there’s so much more to me than my work!

I’m just a girl who has a few stories to tell.

Stories that have molded me and shaped me into who I am today. I’ve got 40 years of life to share; so many joyful ups, and a handful of intense downs.

People in my life have encouraged me to write, to share my stories, to perhaps publish a book. But the thought of writing a book when you’ve never written so much as a chapter before is a little intimidating.

It feels like an ominous bullet on the To-Do list that just never gets checked off. So, I’ve spent the last several months trying to decide the best approach to marry my love of my work, interior design, with my life stories and how to merge my two big overarching life goals into one role for me.

All of my thinking about this led me to an important concept… design isn’t just something I love and do – it’s so much more than that!

Design is an all-encompassing concept that touches on every area of our homes, our lives, and our lifestyles. Design touches everything we touch, everything we see, and it forms the foundation of how we spend time with those we love. How we plan our meals for the week. How we choose which kid gets which bedroom in the new house. How we choose what to wear for the day. My point is, my career path is critical in this world. Not only interior design, but fashion, architecture, furniture design, and technology.

Design is interwoven into literally every part of our lives.

So, enough rambling…how does this concept have anything to do with Sleek to Chic Interiors, you ask?

To make a long answer short, I’ve decided to use my existing platform, website, and social media to tell my stories. I’ve always kept my personal life and career life fairly separate on social media and online. Compartmentalized chunks of myself, if you will. But I realized that by compartmentalizing the various parts of my life, I’ve unconsciously chosen to only tell my stories to those that ask. And trust me, I get asked a lot of things privately. I get messages multiple times per week asking me on behalf of their loved ones about my health, my diet, my adoption journey, my losses. My messenger box is full of messages from perfect strangers who’ve been put in touch with me about various topics I’ve lived through.

So from now on, Sleek to Chic Interiors will continue designing wonderful interiors for clients, but I will also begin sharing my personal life and telling my stories, sharing about my love of cooking, my love of books, and my view on fashion (which isn’t typical) along with so many other things. I’ll share stories on Instagram of my client projects, install days, construction site visits, with a little food, fun, family and fashion mixed in. But more importantly, I’ll share with you those intense downs and how I overcame them and kept my faith along the way.

I will be blogging regularly and preparing both planned and organic content to show you what makes me and my brand unique.

It’s a privilege to get to create and bring beauty into this world, even if my way is my own!

I hope you follow along and find everything I have to share with you inspiring and comforting, even in some small way.

Consider this shift in thinking to be a new, fresh start for Sleek to Chic, one where I teach you all how to create your own Designed Lifestyle!
